Losing belly fat for women can be difficult, as I know first-hand. Before I continue I would just like to say there is nothing terribly wrong with being just a little fat. I tend to think of  myself as being a little fat also. Unfortunately, I know I am just telling lies to myself.

I do know I am lying to myself because when I go to grab my stomach I can easily fill both of my hands with excess fat. It is a worry, because until recently I was clueless on how to lose it. But just lately I’ve been reading Carolyn Hansen’s book “21 Days To Healthy Eating” which has great advice on losing belly fat for women (and men too).

Thanks to this book I now know what I really need to be doing to get rid of the fat all around my middle, and on other areas of my body too. I suspect that this is likely to be true of just about all people, but I have been thinking about losing fat completely the wrong way for a very long time. I have been very lazy and let myself to get into some behaviours which have been working against my goal of losing the extra weight that’s piled onto my body over the last few years.

I have a look at it every time I turn around and direct a look into a mirror. It bumps up against the edge of my desk whenever I pull my chair in close as I take a seat. The fat has got to go.

Thankfully I now have a solution to losing belly fat for women. But instead of  telling you about what I will be doing from now on to get into better shape, I am going to tell you about all the things I have been doing wrong. My guess is that many of you reading this article will be doing all these things too. You will slowly nod your head as you read it and see  where you have been going wrong.

The first thing I did entirely wrong was to think that “a little fat” never harmed anyone, so I could simply ignore the gradual changes I saw with my body. Doing that was a crucial mistake. It is so much simpler to never put on the weight in the first place than to stress out later when looking for quick ways to get rid of it. Sooner or later you will you be doing  that when you need to look good on a special occasion such as wedding.

By the way, have you ever felt the urge to respond to those adverts which promise to help you “Lose so many pounds in so many days”? The sad truth is that a lot of people actually do fall for the hype. Alas, many people also find there’s no way to reduce weight really fast and keep it off. When you drastically limit the amount you eat, your body is required to render both fat and muscular tissues for energy. Consequently the extra pounds you lose is not entirely fat weight.

Losing fat without losing muscle is our aim.

Just why should that make any difference as long as you are losing weight? After all, that’s the whole point isn’t it?

Well, for a start, muscle is the tissue inside your body that most likes to burn up fat. The greater the muscle you have, the greater the numbers of calories you need to burn through during the day. When that energy doesn’t come from the food you have digested on that day, then it must be derived from your present fat reserves.Accordingly this means that you need to hold onto every ounce of muscle tissue you can.

Restricting Calories

Cutting back on calories, which will be what nearly all diets are about, only increases the loss of muscle tissue. Trust me, you really do not want to go down that road. In other words, restricted calorie diets are out.

The next thing I did wrong was to embark on the “one day diet” every day. This is simply a different way of saying that I would eat one single big meal every day and end it with a few snacks later on. Basically, this is similar to dieting, except that the duration of the diet is less than 24 hours. In addition it doesn’t work too well, due to the fact like normal dieting the signal your body gets is that food is scarce.

This prompts a response to food by the body which can only be described as starving. This “starvation response” evolved as a result of  our body’s need to maintain fuel supplies when food was hard to come by, as in times of famine.

Rather than purging any excess of food that has made its way into the body as blood sugar, insulin is released in volume to mop up the sugar and store it as fat, more often than not in the stomach region of the body.

This fat storage will ensure that some form of energy is available if it turns out this “one day famine” should stretch out to more taxing time durations, like a week or a month. The body sets itself up for fat accumulation when you treat it this way, by denying food for the better part of the day.

What you need to do is basically straightforward. You have to eat more often, but you make the proportions of your meals smaller, so you never get any real hunger pangs. This is the “grazing” method that is endorsed by many fitness experts like Carolyn Hansen.

Hidden Dangers In Our Food?

Thanks to her book, I now know that there is a lot more to eating healthy than by simply adding more vegetables to my diet. And I now have a much better appreciation of what I need to be looking for when buying food in my local supermarket. To be more precise, I know what food additives I must avoid when buying food.

What don’t people realise is that many foods contain toxins that force your body to wrap them in fat to protect the rest of your body from them! Many of the foods we buy have had all sorts of artificial colors, preservatives, and flavourings added to them to improve the shelf life and the taste. Many of these are bad for our health and should be avoided at all costs. Honestly, there are so many things added to our food today that are really not good for you!

I don’t want to sound facetious, but it’s probable the stuff they put in foods to increase their shelf life are decreasing our shelf life.
